Workshop Information
Purpose and Core Content:
The Basics of Supervision @ Berkeley Lab Workshop is intended for newly hired and newly promoted managers and supervisors in any area or division. The workshop is offered on a quarterly basis and participants must attend only one workshop. They have the option to attend onsite or virtually, but the recommendation is to attend on site to build connection and community with colleagues.
Participants will learn the fundamentals about being an effective manager/supervisor at Berkeley Lab and will receive a general overview of the policies, processes, and resources associated with the following topics:
Supervisor Expectations at LBNL
Hiring & Onboarding
Performance Management
Career Development
Compensation
Communication for Team Science
Recognition & Engagement
Includes a one-stop Supervisor Resource Guide!
This workshop can serve as part of the onboarding for a new manager or it can serve as a refresher course for current managers who have been in their management position for longer than 2 years, since policies and resources are updated frequently.
Workshop Format: Onsite primarily, option to attend virtually
Audience: Newly hired and newly promoted managers and supervisors
Facilitators: Human Resources Principal and Senior HR Division Partners

Registration Process:
STEP 1: Complete the optional e-learning courses titled "Supervisor Fundamentals Bundle" in the UC Learning Management System. Link to the course is provided in the description in the registration page. These are a good primer to the Basics of Supervision workshop. The courses will take approximately 45-60minutes to complete.
STEP 2: Register for and attend the live workshop during your preferred date. Registration links are below. Virtual attendance is an option for those who cannot attend in person.
